The action of the components of ESOPHAGEL:
Hyaluronic acid is part of the protective layer of the esophagus and protects the mucous membrane of the esophagus from the negative effects of acidic gastric contents when it is thrown (reflux) into the esophagus.
Sodium alginate is mainly produced from brown or red algae. Like hyaluronic acid, it protects the mucous membrane of the esophagus. In addition, alginate prolongs the residence time of ESOPHAGEL on the surface of the esophageal epithelium. The fact is that the esophagus is designed to quickly transport food from the mouth to the stomach; consequently, medications remain in the esophagus for only a few seconds and do not have time to exert a therapeutic effect. That is why sodium alginate, a mucoadhesive biopolymer, has been added to the composition of ESOPHAGEL – it prolongs the drug’s residence time in the esophagus up to 8 hours due to its adhesion (attachment) to the mucous membrane. In addition, alginic acid forms an anti‑reflux barrier on the surface of the gastric contents, preventing gastroesophageal reflux.
Magnesium hydroxide belongs to the so‑called non‑absorbable antacids: They neutralize the acidic contents of the stomach on its surface and in the lumen of the esophagus. In addition, these components coat the mucous membrane of the esophagus and stomach, protecting it from the effects of hydrochloric acid and pepsin.
ESOFAGel provides a rapid effect (within 3-5 minutes after administration) against the main symptom of GERD – heartburn. In addition, ESOFAGel prevents regurgitation (the reflux of stomach contents into the pharynx), especially at night.
ESOFAGEL sachets should be taken 4 times a day, 1 sachet each time: 3 times an hour after main meals and once at night, immediately before going to bed – to prevent nighttime reflux.
